Monkey Girl, meet DrawMonkey.

Helloooooo,

A wicked artist who's blog is at http://yearinmerde.blogspot.com/ has an awesome character called Monkey Girl. He had asked a while ago if anybody wanted to draw her in their own style to do it. I figured it was about time for Monkey Girl to meet DrawMonkey... seems fitting, don't you think?

Bastion's 7.

Here's one I did for CHEEKS' Bastion's 7 contest he had over the holidays. The theme was to draw a character of his own Bastion's 7 comic and make it our own. I threw in his logo chasing after his character for gags sake.

Enjoy,
Ren

His and Her's.

Here's a pic I did while the wife, the in-laws, and I were watching Love Actually ( yes, chick flick, but a good one... really... watch it, you'll understand ). I was actually going for more of a french style but I'm happy with what came of it.

Cheers all,
Ren

Contra final.

Hello all. Here are the finishing parts of my homage to Contra. Hope you likes it.

Happy Holidays everybody.

Contra part 1, 2, and 3 of 4... I think

Hello all,

Aaahhh, Crimas. It's a good time to relax and update your blog. Oh, and I guess hanging with the inlaws is pretty darn fun too.

An excellent artist on Deviant Art ( http://lerms.deviantart.com/ ) other arters to join in an art jam. The theme being homages or emotions of an NES cover art, I just had to jump on that.

I picked Contra.

Hopefully I'll be able to colour it before work start again in the new year.

Cheers and Happy Everything you celebrate during this time... and if you don't, just have fun, will ya?,
Ren

Back from the dead.

Hello everybody. I haven't posted in what feels like an eternity mostly because work is keeping me extremely busy... and I got sick... and I got an iPhone.

Here's one that took a while to do for the above reasons and cause it has more work put into it than any other piece I've done up to now. It's a little boy whom my wife knows through people who's nine I believe and has lost his leg to bone cancer. We were really touched by this story so one thing we did was that at our wedding, instead of having the glass clinging that everybody else in the world does ( and that the caterers didn't want us to do ), we told everybody that they'd have to donate money to a little piggy bank set at the head table. We thought that would also limit the amount of awkward kisses we'd have to do.

We were wrong.

The good side of this story is that we raised a nice bit of money for the little boy. Although it's still weird to have smooched so much with some co-workers and our boss there to see all that unfolding.

Oh yeah, we got out of his mother/aunt/I'm confused as to who it was now that his favorite hero is Super Mario... hence him with Super Mario.

Told you I'd be back...

Here ya go. Adventure with the coolest kid in the woods. Now to go hang out with my wife and watch zombie movies in preparation of Halloween... yeah, we like to get ready well in advance.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers,
Ren

( by the way, that title works better if you read the following post before this one :D )

That's Mr Husband to you.

Hey folks, I'm back. It apparently takes the drawing out of you if your computer's in the shop for about 3 weeks while you also have to get ready for a wedding... YOUR wedding.

I've also been geeking out majorly on anything space related.

So I drew something space related.

I took my time for the line work but did a quick colour job. I wanted to try it all sketchy like.

Hope you like it.

I'll be posting a whole lot more now that I can relax.

Cheers,
Ren

I hate computers.

Here are a couple of new ones I've been working on lately. The Green Lantern I did today for a gift for someone. I don't think I've ever drawn so fast. And especially with my computer acting like a real butthole, I'm surprised I got it done at all.

Zelda's almost fully coloured so that should be done soon... as long as my computer doesn't die.

Hold on old fella... HOLD ON!!!

One more step...

The cleanup didn't come out as well as I was hoping ( I wish I had a good WACOM... or a Cintiq... mmmmm, Cintiiiiiiq ) but still happy with it. Now the fun part of adding colour and them there words... tomorrow.

Cheers,
Ren

Dead? Me? Yes... but I'm back.

So I've been busy for the last while and I think I've already lost some oomf. But I have good reasons to have been away from my drawing table... really... umm...

... this is one. And I would say that it's a good reason. For those of you who are wondering, YES!, it was a wicked show. I can't believe old folks like that can still move. We were probably more tired watching them then they were playing 'till midnight-ish on a Monday night.

Only one eye...

Here ya go. Hopes ya like it as much as I'm going to like going to bed right now.

Halfway there.

Now it's ready for colour.

I've had Step By Step from the Backstreet Boys in my head aaaalll damn day and posting every step of this piece is not helping at all.

Step By Step,
oo babehhh,
Gonna get to you giiiiiiiiirl.

Help,
Ren

Oh boys... !

I've started noticing how most of my favorite artists to check out do comic books, or at least post comic pages. Then I started wondering if there was a connection to the fact that their such great artists and the medium they chose.

After thinking about it, I've decided to give sort of a purpose to my drawings, or just drawing in general. I'm going to try and draw in a more comic style. So, as often as I can do it, I'm going to try and draw as if I'm making a one page comic... maybe two. Since I'm not much of a writer, I've asked my friends to write some shorts for me, but this one was all Ren.

Cheers,
Ren

The Dr sees all... in COLOUR

Yay. Well, this one took a little longer than I thought due to sicknesses, wedding plans, not being here, and other excuses... err, I mean, reasons.

Hope you likes,
Ren

Baby steps

So here's the cleanup version of the Dr and my fiancé hanging out behind my back. I didn't have time to scan it all in and patch it all together nice and neat like. But you get the idea.

Next step, colour.

Cheers.

Someone has a crush on someoooonnne

Meeka's ( my fiance ) asked me to do a drawing of her and David Tennant ( a.k.a. Dr. Who ) so I finally sat down in front of the drawing board tonight and got this clean-ish rough done. I think I like it but the final verdict will have to wait 'till tomorrow night... or the day after.

In any case, hope you enjoy.

Salut.

Oldy

I was going through my old stuff, looking for short short I did a while back. I couldn't find it. But I did find something totally different that I did some years ago for an idea friends of mine and I had about the life and times of a lazy kid... we never did anything... probably 'cause that lazy kid was mostly an amalgamation of us.

Eep.

Seeya.

Naughty Spidey in Technicolour

After a fun-filled weekend with the inlaws and my lovely wife-to-be, I was able to squeeze in some time to colour Spidey in action.

The cat in this piece is my cat in the pose that I see him in most of the time... with jaw gaping, thinking he's interesting to the rest of the world.

I resisted the temptation to blur Spidey in his speedy pinchy move 'cause I got yelled at by my peer for being blur happy.

Happy now :D

Cheers.

What would YOU do with super powers?

Hiya folks.

Since I don't really have the time to finish a drawing this week and I haven't posted any rough stuff yet... here is some rough stuff.

I've been looking at the meriad ( I think that's how you spell that ) of wicked, wicked artists on Blogspot. When I find someone I like, I try to steal what I can from their styles. It obviously never ends up exactly like their's ( they're good for a reason ), but you learn soooo much doing it. So these 2 are "inspired" by Mathieu Reynès and Florian Satzinger. I HIGHLY recommend checking them out.

Cheers all,
Ren

Kuta attempt numéro deux

So after checking out all the awesomeness that people did for Cheeks' contest, I realised two things. Holy crap they're good, and they all did their's in their own style as opposed to Cheeks' ( ish ) like I tried to do.... soooooo.

Needless to say that I got back on the drawing board and came up with this piece.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Ren

Kuta : A Cheeky Contest

Sean "Cheeks" Galloway has a contest going on for his Kuta character. This would be my first attempt at an entry. I think I'll only be able to make another one which is too bad 'cause this is fun.

Hope you liiiiiiike.

Ren.

Particle Man

I was just introduced to the whole Particle Man song by They Might Be Giants. It screamed to be sketched. So instead of going deaf from the screaming, I thought I'd give it a try.

Hope you like it.

Cheers,
Ren

Particle man, Particle Man
Doing things a particle can
What's he like? it's not important
Particle Man
Is he a dot, or is he a speck?
When he's underwater, does he get wet?
Or does the water get him instead?
Nobody knows, Particle Man
Triangle Man, Triangle Man
Triangle Man hates Partical Man
The have a fight, Triangle wins
Triangle Man
Universe Man, Universe Man
Size of the entire Universe Man
Usually kind to smaller man
Universe Man
He's got a watch with a minute hand,
Millenium hand, and an eon hand
When they meet it's a happy land
Powerful man, Universe Man
Person Man, Person Man
Hit on the head with a frying pan
Lives his life in a garbage can
Person Man
Is he depressed, or is he a mess?
Does he feel totally worthless?
Who came up with Person Man?
Degraded man, Person Man
Triangle Man, Triangle Man
Triangle Man hates Person Man
They have a fight, Triangle wins
Triangle Man

Scooting away

Work has started up again so I don't have the time I'd want to put on drawing anymore, but I'm still pushing forward... just a little slower.

I became a gradient and blur whore in this one. I may have overdone it, or I may not... I'm kind of tired right now and can't really tell.

On that note, good night everybody.

Cheers,
Ren

Get that girl

I thougth I'd play with gradients for colouring and shading on this one. Here's the cleanup too. Why not, right?

Now to go enjoy the beautifull day outside since I've been hiding out in my cave for the past couple of weeks drawing up a storm.

After that, mooore drawing ( who am I kidding, it's like a drug ).

Cheerios,
Ren

Bloody

I'm still playing with the new Photoshop ways. I'm starting to get the hang of it but now it's taking that much longer to figure out what I want to do with a picture since my options are that much more varied. And with taxe time, a house to tend to, a cat that can't live without my attention, and other distractions, single drawings are taking more time than ever before.

Hope you like though,
Ren

Potty humour

One of my good friends at work ( Steve Cheyne ), who is also a Photoshop guru, gave me pointers at how to paint in Photoshop.

This is a quick doodle I made to try out his technique and make sure I didn't forget too much of it. Apparently I didn't. It wasn't cleaned properly to really get the full use of his colouring method but I understand it enough to use it.

I only realised after how relevant the drawing was. We've all been faced with the fearsome unknown, and this is kind of how I felt getting lectured on a software I thought I knew enough to get around... nah!

Thanks Steve, wherever you are.

Cheers,
Ren

Dr Who?

I decided to start the blog off with some drawings of the good Dr.

"Who?" you ask?

Yes, that one.

I'm trying to mature my style to something that's simpler and fun to animate. I'm a lot closer to it than I used to be, but I still have some work to do to be at a level I'm happy with. I look at these and realise that I need to work on my basic shapes and proportions push them even further ( especially when it comes to the lady shapes ). Any comments and criticism is greatly appreciated ( I AM doing this to improve myself in the end ).

'Till next time.

Cheers,
Ren

Zzzzzzzz..rraahhgfs..... wha... what?

Hello all.

I've finally decided to utilise this thing people keep talking about. I think it's called the interweb? I've just been given a couple of weeks off and decided to reinvent myself and my style... so I stole from the artists I admire most ( Sean Galloway, Cyril Pedrosa just to name a couple ). And now I'm ready to start posting things as they come. My wife-to-be ( titaniumhip.livejournal.com ... that's not her name, but her blog adress ) will eventually forget who I am but will hopefully forgive me due to the amount of TV time she's going to gain.

So as soon as I find my scanner chord, I'll be in business.

Cheers,
Ren
